La Posada: Where Latin Culture Lives and Every Dish Tells a Story

September 15, 2025

As we celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, there’s no better time to share a story of heritage, hospitality, and culinary passion unfolding in National Landing. Where the sounds of sizzling fajitas mingle with the warm hum of conversation in National Landing, a story of heritage, hospitality, and culinary passion unfolds. La Posada, nestled within the Quimby on 23rd building, isn’t just another Mexican restaurant – it’s a soulful Latin space where tradition meets innovation, and every meal becomes a memory.

At the helm of this cultural haven is Julian Giraldo, a restaurateur whose journey spans 25 years and reads like a testament to the American Dream. His path to La Posada began when he first arrived in the United States, where he worked in an Italian restaurant, discovering his calling in the culinary world. From prep cook to front-of-house manager, Julian absorbed every aspect of restaurant life before venturing out to open his own small pizza place in Baltimore.

When the recession forced him to close that first venture, Julian didn’t retreat; he regrouped. After working as a manager at a BWI pizza franchise, he transitioned into restaurant sales with Trimark, selling equipment to help others open their dream restaurants. But as he visited customers, that familiar pull toward hospitality kept tugging at his heart.

“When visiting customers, I continued to feel emotional about coming back to restaurants,” Julian reflects. That connection led him to search for the perfect location and opportunity, ultimately finding a welcoming partner in Dweck Properties. Just two months after opening, La Posada has already become a beloved addition to the National Landing community and residents of Quimby on 23rd.

The name “La Posada” carries deep significance, embodying both Julian’s vision for hospitality and his family heritage. In Spanish, “La Posada” means “the inn” – a nod to the old tradition where travelers journeying from town to town would find a warm welcome in homes where strangers became guests, sharing homemade food and drink. It’s also his grandmother’s last name, and her memory permeates every corner of the restaurant through carefully preserved family heirlooms: an old phone, a vintage camera, and cherished recipes displayed throughout the space.

“Food from the heart,” Julian explains, gesturing toward the open kitchen concept that allows diners to peer into the culinary space, much like peering into a family kitchen during Sunday dinner. This transparency isn’t just architectural, it’s philosophical, inviting guests to become part of the La Posada family.

The restaurant’s design tells its own story of cultural fusion. Vibrant, hand-painted tiles create a mosaic of color against walls that blend urban sophistication with traditional warmth. The grand light fixtures were crafted from hammered copper by artisans in Mexico. Every detail is intentional, creating what Julian describes as “a combination of something urban and modern and authentic.”

While the atmosphere draws you in, it’s the extraordinary team that makes La Posada special. General Manager Willy Moreira brings seasoned expertise to the operation, working alongside the management team, representing over 20 years of combined restaurant experience. Add in a dedicated kitchen staff led by chefs Jonathan and Israel, and you get what Julian proudly calls “the best service ever,” a claim supported by nearly 100 five-star Google reviews in just two months.

The menu at La Posada celebrates both tradition and innovation, offering classic Mexican dishes alongside elevated creations that surprise and delight. While you’ll find expertly prepared fajitas, birria tacos, and empanadas, Julian has also introduced dishes that reflect his culinary evolution, including Duck in Guajillo Sauce, an Aztec burger, and Octopus a la Parrilla. The tuna tostada has become a particular favorite, with diners saying it transports them to tropical destinations.

“We focus on quality of food, experience, and service above all else,” Julian emphasizes, a philosophy that has led to memorable reviews like “It’s so much more than just a Mexican restaurant” – exactly the sentiment he hopes every guest takes away. La Posada also serves as a community gathering place, featuring a private dining room that is perfect for events ranging from intimate celebrations to corporate functions, accommodating 30-40 people. The space has a capacity of up to 100 when combined with the restaurant area.

The restaurant’s commitment to bringing people together is evident in their new Wednesday special – a plate of paella paired with a glass of wine for just $13.99, a deal that has already drawn crowds throughout the summer season. Julian is also working on partnerships with local Virginia wineries, believing strongly in supporting fellow local businesses.

Looking ahead, Julian has ambitious plans for La Posada’s future in the community. An outdoor patio is planned for next summer, and he’s eager to participate in more community events. The restaurant’s busiest times, Friday and Saturday dinner service, showcase the growing appetite for authentic Latin cuisine in National Landing.

For first-time visitors, Julian’s message is simple but powerful: “I hope you have a meal you remember for a long time. Make this meal a memory.” It’s this philosophy that has quickly established La Posada as more than just a restaurant, but as a cultural bridge bringing the warmth and richness of Latin tradition to National Landing. From Julian’s grandmother’s recipes to the handcrafted fixtures imported from Mexico, every element of La Posada tells a story of heritage, hospitality, and the belief that food is love made tangible. As this passionate restaurateur and his dedicated team continue to welcome neighbors from the Quimby building and beyond, La Posada is proving that sometimes the most authentic experiences are found not just in what’s on the plate, but in the heart behind it.

So the next time you find yourself in National Landing, on the corner of Clark Street and 23rd St South, step into La Posada and let yourself be transported. Whether you’re savoring their famous tuna tostada, indulging in their Wednesday paella special, or simply enjoying the warm ambiance created by generations of hospitality tradition, you’ll discover that some places don’t just serve food, but memories, one carefully crafted dish at a time. What better way to honor Hispanic Heritage Month than by experiencing the authentic flavors and warm hospitality that Julian and his team share with every guest.
