On Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, the Hamilton Live! was transformed into a vibrant disco extravaganza for the annual DweckSTARS employee awards and appreciation event. With this year’s “Funkadelic” theme, the ceremony combined the glitz of the Oscars and the energy of the vibrant 1970s culture infused with a Dweck twist — a time dedicated to honoring team members who exemplify excellence throughout the year. These are the individuals who consistently go above and beyond, embodying Dweck’s ethos of “our business is real estate, and our focus is the human state” — individuals who radiate positive attributes while contributing to the overall culture and success of the company. Each winner is chosen through a people’s choice selection process, nominated and voted on by their fellow Dweck colleagues. This year’s heartfelt celebration included prizes, lots of cheering, a 70s game-show themed skit, and best of all – a live performance by none other than Ralph Dweck and his band, South Glen.

The atmosphere was electric from start to finish, with the infectious energy of a funkadelic theme setting the tone for the afternoon. Dweck team members arrived in their most impressive 70s-inspired attire, complete with colorful wigs, sparkles, and an abundance of funk. The room was aglow with blinking lights on every table, and the spirit of camaraderie was palpable as properties cheered for one another, fostering an environment of pure positivity.

Before the awards ceremony, attendees had the chance to participate in a Dweck-ified version of  The Price is Right (the iconic 70s game show), with lucky winners taking home coveted prizes like a PlayStation 5 console, an iPad and gift cards. The excitement was through the roof!

President Andy VanHorn kicked off the event with heartfelt opening remarks.“DweckSTARS is a celebration of what makes our company so completely unique, so completely us – our quirky, our authentic, our funny, our completely human selves.” He expressed his gratitude for the incredible work accomplished by the Dweck team over the past year. He emphasized that it’s the people in the room who make Dweck’s success possible, celebrating their unrivaled heart, talent, and grit. Special thanks were given to Dweck’s own rockstar founder, Ralph Dweck, event mastermind Kathy Murphy, and the sponsors who all made it possible. 

As the awards ceremony commenced, the room buzzed with anticipation. Rising Stars were recognized in the categories of Concierge, Maintenance Professional, and Property Operations, showcasing the incredible talent emerging within the Dweck ranks with a tenure of just under a year. The coveted titles of Concierge, Leasing Professional, Maintenance Professional, Maintenance Supervisor, Assistant Property Manager, and Property Manager of the Year were bestowed upon deserving individuals who consistently go above and beyond.

Crystal Towers took home the prestigious Property of the Year award, a testament to their outstanding performance and dedication. The Flor Yudice Humanitarian Award, presented by Flor’s daughter Abigail, was given to Thania Lama from ICON at Dulles, honoring Flor’s legacy of helping others and using her heart and hands to make a difference.

Shoutouts were given to the talented social media marketers, and awards were presented for embodying Dweck’s core values: Be Outstanding, Do What Matters, Stay Curious, Live the Truth, and Take Care. The “Thinking Like an Owner” award, a new addition to the DweckSTARS lineup, was proudly presented to Mia Muhammad from Crystal Flats.

As the award ceremony drew to a close, Alex Williams from HQ was honored as the HQ Dweckstar, and Victor Guerra from ICON at Dulles was crowned the Dweckstar of the Year, a fitting conclusion to an unforgettable celebration.

DweckSTARS 2024 was more than just an awards ceremony — it was a vibrant testament to the incredible individuals who make up the Dweck Properties family. The funkadelic atmosphere, combined with the genuine appreciation and recognition of outstanding achievements, made for a truly magical evening. As the Dweck team continues to outperform and garner recognition, events like DweckSTARS serve as a reminder of the unbreakable spirit and unity that define our company.
