Daydrift Books & Café: Turning the Page on Coffee Culture

July 1, 2026

In a neighborhood defined by constant movement and momentum, Daydrift Books & Café offers something refreshingly different: a reason to slow down.

Tucked into National Landing, just around the corner from Crystal Square Apartments, Daydrift is more than a coffee shop. It’s a bookstore and gathering space, welcoming the community to pause in a constantly buzzing neighborhood. Since opening in October 2025, the independent café has quickly become a favorite among residents, professionals, and visitors seeking a moment of calm amid the energy of one of the region’s fastest-growing areas (not to mention its unique and delicious fare).

“We wanted to cultivate a space where people can feel like they’re in a living room,” says Café Manager Sammer Hajhamad. “You feel the warmth through the environment and hospitality. We want every guest to feel like they’re a part of the café once they’re in here.”

That sense of belonging is evident the moment you walk through the door. Shelves lined with books surround cozy seating areas, conversations linger over coffee, and guests are encouraged to stay and relax. It’s a deliberate departure from the grab-and-go culture that has become common in many cafés. Books are available to purchase, and you will notice thoughtful note cards lining the shelves, enticing readers with their stories.

“Coffee shops have turned into these super quick, in-and-out spaces where people get their caffeine fix,” Sammer explains. “The books are intended to help people slow down and escape.” For Daydrift, creating that calmer pace is especially meaningful in National Landing.

“National Landing is such a developing space, and we just wanted to add warmth,” Sammer says. “It’s a gift that people constantly choose us because they can slow down and stay awhile.”

That mission extends beyond coffee and books. Daydrift is intentionally building a community that keeps growing, returning, and connecting with one another. Local author talks and book signings take place regularly, giving guests the opportunity to meet writers and hear the stories behind their work. The team is also expanding its programming with book clubs, puzzles, word games, and other interactive events each week designed to bring people together.

“We want people to feel like they’re part of something,” Sammer says. “We want our community to know us on a personal level.”

Books remain at the heart of that experience. Rather than curating shelves from behind the scenes, the Daydrift team actively invites community input. Guests regularly share recommendations, and a suggestion sheet hanging on the wall is already filled with ideas from readers eager to contribute. “We’re constantly asking guests what they love,” Sammer says.

The collection evolves throughout the year to reflect the interests and identities of the community. Recent displays have featured LGBTQ+ authors during Pride Month, while future selections will highlight Disability Pride Month and other themes that resonate with readers. A strong poetry section has also become a favorite among regulars.

When asked about a book she recommends again and again, Sammer doesn’t hesitate. All About Love by Bell Hooks tops her list, followed closely by The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

Perhaps the best example of Daydrift’s impact comes from its regulars. Sammer shared a story about a customer who typically visits in the morning but stopped by later in the day instead and was delighted to see the café buzzing with activity. “He loves to come and chat with people,” she says. “It’s where he comes for personal connection.”

It’s a simple interaction, but one that perfectly captures Daydrift’s purpose. In a world that often encourages us to move faster, Daydrift creates space to linger, connect, and discover something new.

For first-time visitors, Sammer recommends starting with one of the café’s most popular menu items. The avocado toast remains a crowd favorite, while the breakfast burrito with chicken sausage and the croissant egg sandwich have earned loyal followings of their own.

As for drinks, the new summer menu is already drawing attention, including the Strawberries & Creme Matcha, Vanilla Bean Latte, Toasted Coconut Shaken Espresso, Milk & Cookies Cold Brew, and Pistachio Honey Latte. Guests looking for something a little unexpected can also try the Blueberry Matcha Lemonade or the refreshing Limoncello Dirty Soda.

Whether you’re searching for your next favorite book, a thoughtfully crafted drink, or simply a place to pause, Daydrift offers something increasingly rare: a genuine sense of community.

And in National Landing, that’s a story worth getting lost in.
