Crystal Towers and Crystal Flats Receive ENERGY STAR® Certification

January 29, 2024

We’re proud to announce that two Dweck Properties communities, Crystal Towers and Crystal Flats, have both earned ENERGY STAR® certifications. This recognition demonstrates the hard work of our property managers and engineering teams who operate these communities with energy efficiency in mind.

Crystal Towers and Crystal Flats are the first two communities in the Dweck Properties portfolio to earn this industry recognition.  They demonstrate superior energy operations as each building performs in the top 15-20 percent of similar buildings nationwide and meet strict energy performance levels set by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency.

Crystal Towers is a high-rise residential community in Arlington, Virginia with 912 apartments and large, welcoming amenities spaces.  It’s also located just steps to Metro, dozens of restaurants, shopping, and vibrant outdoor community spaces.  Over the last couple of years, the property team has been focused on replacing existing lighting, fixtures, and appliances with updated energy and water efficient options.  There is also a mechanical system project in progress that is expected to be completed by summer 2024 and should improve energy performance further, as well as tenant comfort. This community was certified with a final 1-100 ENERGY STAR® Score of 85.

A close neighbor Crystal Towers, Crystal Flats is a 198-unit apartment building that received LEED Silver Certification in 2017 and participated in the Arlington County Green Building Density Incentive Program (GBIP).  This program requires that energy consumption for common areas and resident apartment units be reported annually.  The team continues to work with vendors to identify energy and water efficient options when lighting, HVAC equipment, or water fixtures need to be replaced.   Crystal Flats was certified with a final 1-100 ENERGY STAR® Score of 83.

Congratulations to our property teams who have worked hard to achieve this goal.  Also, a special thanks to the residents who live in our communities for being part of our sustainability journey and joining us by taking simple actions to cut energy waste and protect the environment.

We look forward to earning this recognition at other Dweck communities and continuing to implement sustainability initiatives across the portfolio.  Cheers to a healthy and sustainable 2024!
